just the simple fact that there's such a divide in philosophies on how the country should be run should be enough proof that we need a national divorce.
Good luck, last time someone tried "we'll just leave" it turned into their states beung burned to the ground and under federal boots for decades.
Tyrants do not relinquish control without violence. Lincoln wasn't even entirely unjustified but the civil war was not executed righteously, it was used as a demonstration to transform the country from a federation of states to provinces under central control.
The American way is to just ignore laws you don't like, so I suspect the closest we will get to a "national divorce" is states increasingly ignoring an increasingly impotent FedGov.
The government doing a bunch of stuff is transfer payments. I don't think people are confused, but more than half are dependent on the government. They hope they will get a. Cut of that government, although save for stimulus checks the government mostly gives it to the already wealthy
If GOP were a legitimate opposition party, they would have been pushing to permanently shift that burden to the states. All cutting your taxes or cutting funding to agencies does is shift it to the next administration who will turn the money printer back on.
Totally agree. I have long argued the funding of government is precisely in reverse, and that is proof how corrupt it is. Local government does the most for you and has to beg for a 0.5 percent tax increase. Meanwhile the Feds take at least 40% of many people's money including the wealthy who ostensibly pay the most and they send us to die for Israel.

oh yes. Feds get their shithole cities and vacation homes, we get the rest.
