It gets weirder. I've seen people complain about the axe guy in soul caliber because he's obviously white washed native. He's a traditional German warrior from the point of view from a crazy Japanese point of view.
Oy vey cut it with the antisemitic dogwhistles, goyim!
But I assume they mean Rock, the character Astaroth is a clone of. Who is an English guy who grew up in America with the Natives before coming back to Europe for the games to take place.
Yeah, now I remember Rock's backstory. And of course, that just reminds me that they kinda did the same thing with Setsuka. A European girl that ended up in Japan and raised by a swordmaster (that was killed by Mitsurugi).
Oh, Rock. Yeah, I'm a latecomer to the series (started with 2 or 3, really), to the point that when Rock came back, he was a giant mace guy rather than an axe guy, with a very slightly different moveset to Astaroth.

The axe guy? Astaroth? He's a fucking GOLEM.

Soul Calibur backstories are always convoluted like that, but it makes for an actual diverse cast compared to basically any other fighting game.
Which is why I love it so much more than the rest.
Not astaroth. The one with the bear or buffalo head as a helmet.
That's Rock.
I need to play the game again...

He's definitely not the more remembered ones.
