Was it really Volition that was shut down, or did they shut down way earlier and what is gone now is the corpse being worn as a skinsuit by leftist hacks.
I really doubt a lot of the studios that exist currently are the same as even 5 years ago and many are just skinsuits.
Pretty sure the studio more or less shut down years ago when THQ went under. They sort of flopped around for about a year, finishing up and releasing Saints Row 4 and doing Gat Out of Hell, but that was basically the end point.
Criterion and Playground Games come to mind immediately. The former is an EA skinsuit and the latter had all their talent poached to make a feminist GTA clone.
Now I wish we could have a proper Paradise City sequel.
EA did a remaster and forced DICE to make it, which was amusing. Did the same with Hot Pursuit 2010.
DICE is basically dead since BF2042, just kept around as code monkeys for other projects.
Probably as some companies go broke and then take the woke money which is drying up now after over a decade of cheap credit.
