I'm not sure I buy the idea that the jews were looking to have a warrior king destroy Rome. Correct me if I'm wrong, but their issue was with him claiming he was King of The Jews, and as such was inherently blasphemous, since the institutions wouldn't recognize him. What's in the story to suggest they wanted someone more militant, or that they weren't intending to co-operate with Rome?
