Glad to see even on other subs people just revert to "you just a conpro troll!" accusations when called out.
Because god forbid people have their own original ideas, you never did so they must not have either and stole it from some group they are trying to fit in with.
People see the negative association and then completely stop thinking and don't bother to assess whether the specific argument being made is legitimate or not, even if such arguments originated long before the "bad people group" (conpro) even existed. It's why the cointelpro tactic of creating goofy conspiracy theories and organizing a "cult" around them to discredit actual conspiracies works so well. (QAnon, anyone?)
Its bad when normies fall for it, but they wouldn't be normies if they were capable of critical thinking.
Its worse when people who should know better, like most here, still fall for it. Probably because its easier than asking why someone doesn't like them or if their arguments are just bad.
It's one (another) of the reasons why I think nationalists are more right than anyone else. People are extremely tribal by nature. It appears to be genetically hardwired into all life as a survival mechanism, most notably for social creatures (like humans). They like and forgive their own for almost anything, but attack and hate "the other" for almost anything.
Agreed. Like, people can have more than one sub they stomp around at. Sometimes those are wildly different in tone and topic, other times its almost a complete overlap.
It always reminds me of when KIA1 tried to ban anyone who posted on T_D (under the veneer of "brigading"), because they were scared that dirty right wingers were in their midst and might make them think wrong thoughts.
I don't think I'd even know what conpro is, if people didn't accuse me and others who downvote or disagree with them of being one for the crime of calling them stupid and wrong.
My experience spanned the entirety of gamergate - from the escapist forums to kia1, then kia2, and finally here. It was really depressing to see how many people abandoned ship or turned traitor purely over “muh right wing” panic. If you participated in this front of the current culture war and somehow didn’t end up right wing, then you’re a fucking idiot.
Not just that, but it's a fallacious argument that we can't have multiple interests. I use ConPro more than any other forum, but I still make occasional comments in funny, KiA2, and gaming. I'd comment in other communities, but the site is so small that the hobbies/interests I have are pretty inactive here and don't make it to the trending page.
I grew up playing video games, and I still game a little bit to relax. Just because I use ConPro more than other forums doesn't immediately invalidate my other interests and make my statements about them wrong, and it doesn't make my posts or comments "brigading". That's a Reddit tier argument used to ban all dissent. Remember how Reddit power mods started banning users who merely participated in wrongthink subs?
I still have strong opinions about Hollywood, TV shows, and movies, even though I cancelled cable years ago, don't subscribe to any streaming service, and very rarely go see a movie in the theater. Just because I'm less actively involved in something doesn't mean I can't have an opinion, or that it's "brigading".
KIA1 tried to ban anyone who posted on T_D as "brigaders" because they didn't want any icky right wingers in thier "mostly left wing" sub because it might infect them with logic and reason.
That's all this always reeks as. "Bad group member" might have some good ideas that I accidentally agree with, that would make ME bad, so we need to remove this infection.
