The Mom doesn't play nerf, or pretend, or really anything with her kids. She is fine letting them do it in their rooms on their own. Then she admits she doesn't have a nice temper. She tells her kids that Moms don't play.
So yeah, she is screwing up and even admitting to it. When the kids go through a hard time, they won't talk to her, and think she will punish them. This will show up when they're teens though, so it won't be a thing for several years.
There is a balance as a parent, especially when the office is part of the house. The parent has other work and the kid has things to play. The separation is fine, but pushing it too far is just as dumb as the helicopter parent.
