Canada is notoriously bad at having onerous laws that we don't bother to enforce, or enforce selectively.
Literally everyone here knows that the actual speed limit is 20km/h over what's on the sign; no cop will bother to pull you over for less (unless they have some other reason, like they don't like you or they need to fill their ticket quota). This is a microcosm of our entire "justice" system.
That’s roughly the same as the speed limit in the US. I typically go about 5-10 mp/h over the speed limit on the highway and more often than not I get passed.
