Bridge-the-gap alimony may be awarded to provide support to a party in making the transition from being married to being single... bridge-the-gap alimony may not exceed 2 years.
Rehabilitative alimony may be awarded to assist a party in establishing the capacity for self-support... The length of an award of rehabilitative alimony may not exceed 5 years.
Durational alimony may not be awarded following a marriage lasting less than 3 years... An award of durational alimony may not exceed 50 percent of the length of a short-term marriage, 60 percent of the length of a moderate-term marriage, or 75 percent of the length of a long-term marriage.
Consider the possible liability a man must shoulder for the common case divorce with a median length of first marriages ending in divorce is ~13 years, with men being aged ~43 at that point.
It makes more sense from the perspective of how divorce courts work, too. They can consoder multiple motivations for alimony, but you only get one package. They may use the longest justification tho.
A large improvement, but still fucking onerous.

That would fall under the moderate-term marriage, per this law:
15 fucking years of payments for a 13 year long marriage.
Not including child support, if there are any kids, for which there is NO assumption of shared custody in Florida.
These are cumulative?
In the tiny part of the bill I read it said "or," which would make more sense.
I sure hope this is what is meant.
I mean, objectively, the concept of alimony is beyond crazy in the world we live in, but at least this is a step in the right direction.
