A criminal affidavit obtained by KTSM, a local news station, alleges that Copas did not call for help when she believed she was being kidnapped or after she shot Piedra. She allegedly took a photo of Piedra and sent it to her boyfriend, KTSM reported. She is being held on a $1.5m bond.
Not calling for help while in the car is possibly understandable. The rest, not so much.
What I want to know is whether she was drunk, sleeping, or something else that she forgot about taking the ride.
I see no reason to even entertain the claims of the murderer here. It's no less ridiculous than if the headline was "Woman who shot Uber driver claims she thought he was a space alien". The rider was the one with the gun. All she'd have to do was point it at him and say "stop the car."
If she's sending photos of the guy to her boyfriend, she could have easily called for help. "Hey, the uber driver I just sent you a photo of? He's kidnapping me! Call the cops, and have them trace my phone!"
