As far as 16 goes, let me tell you this- 14 Shadowbringers is currently considered one of the best things Final Fantasy EVER right now. And it's 14's leadership in charge of 16. I'll understand the whiplash of "this isn't what you expect in a single-player Final Fantasy," it hurts, I know; but don't mistake that for a lack of quality. This isn't Final Fantasy Fanboyism, in fact, the opposite- if YoshiP were not the one in charge, I would have no hopes for it right now, it is ONLY because of him that I'm looking forward to it.
Nothing wrong with a graphical update when PS1 gfx looked like ass. The issue is that it's not a remake, it's a retarded reimagining with all the stupidity of modern gaming. And of course, the people somehow cheered for it cause they have no taste
Final Fantasy 7 was a pretty solid story. Which ultimately is all almost all JRPGs are, stories to be told.
The issue isn't graphics updates, it's "this is really popular... We should change it." So many people say FF10 was the last real final fantasy, and I can't imagine why... it's not like they stopped their entire combat system and gameplay loop after that one, it's a mystery. But not enough to change those, no. Gotta change the story itself, too. It's a sequel! But also a remake! So both crowds are lost and generally bemused!
All the Japanese companies make is reboots/remasters anyway.
Imagine getting excited for Final Fantasy 7. It came out in 1997 and people are cheering for it in 2023 as a Soyny exclusive.

It's probably fine if you like those games. I find them tedious.
Games are usually less woke if they don't have a story though.
