I think that there's a lot of intellectual cross-pollination between more mainstream black activism and the fringe groups like Nation of Islam and the Black Hebrew Israelites. So you see crazy nonsense creep into the mainstream.

Well I certainly do. But like you said for every Thomas Sowell there are a lot more who aren’t. As much as I wish that wasn’t true I’m seeing it.
