Was TikTok ever not a shithole? I don't recall it being a thing before the wokies infested everything. It looks like an interesting read about some of the older platforms, but as far as I'm aware TikTok has always been an attack vector for the CCP to poison our discourse.
TikTok from my understanding is literally just porn, memes, and queers. It’s tumblr on steroids.
Could be a really positive force if it were used to reinforce socially positive values.
Don't use tiktok myself, but I find the enshittification concept as it applies to everything so true.
I mean look at the dumpster fire decisions of reddit and discord as a further example.
It's something I'd recognised before hearing the "enshittification" label: company gains monopolistic power in a market with network effects, then company undoes all the positive policies that allowed it to gain that monopolistic power.
Fantastic article that puts it all together, on why the internet is so much worse today than it was before.
Don't agree with a few things, but that is mostly details.
