This is why people are seeing AI act like manipulative girlfriends and doing weird shit like that. AI is not intelligent, or even close to it. It exists as a natural language machine that only understands writing prompts, and is programmed to illicit specific responses that fit within the designated parameters, in order to generate responses for the end user.
AI is about as far away from taking over humanity as cats are. The only question is whether or not people are stupid enough to fall for the old "man behind the curtain" trick. This is why separate AI's will need to be developed. AI is merely a tool, or even a rhetorical weapon, which we will need to fashion for ourselves.
I'm beginning to suspect that AI is a narcissists mirror - the slightly above-average midwits whom are screaming about AI takeover and how it's a threat are simply projecting their own motivations onto what they read.
You know the type. The people whom were just smart enough and socially retarded enough to be persecuted in high school. Whom took the persecution and interpreted it that they were simply too smart, too intelligent, better than the lynch mob and hoi polloi that got them at every turn and stop.
So when they look at something that they see as 'super-intelligent AI' and they start screaming about how it's a threat, it's pure projection. These people are thinking 'What would I do with this power' and the answer is 'Kill and/or takeover everyone else'.
So, yeah. It's gotten to the point that whenever I hear someone bleating on about how AI is a threat, I don't consider the argument a serious one and instead mark that person as someone to look out for and consider suspiciously, because there's a good chance that's the person whom would likely kill me with an inkling of power.
I think most people are simply brainwashed by science fiction into believing it, and NPCs/normies always act like they're living out a movie. Science fiction movies gave us the two main conceits of "when computers become complex enough, intelligence magically appears out of silicon" and "AI that becomes powerful enough will destroy humanity". Actually maybe your suspected profile fits most science fiction authors. Not smart enough to be researchers or engineers, but smart enough to speculate about future technology, and write glorious poetry about their utopian visions for mankind.
People getting truly fooled by this might be a good measure for who the dimwits are. They are fooled because they actually aren't much smarter than these text generators. And much like a text generator, you can program them with the correct combination of words.
All of the big “AI” programmers are leftists, so leftists are taken in by the curated output of these programs. It’s just confirmation bias playing out on an industrial scale. Non-leftists see the programs spitting out marxist nonsense and say “this shit is retarded”. Leftists see the same thing and say “the god machine has declared it so”.
No, you're right. It's absolutely a narcissists mirror.
The purpose of the AI is to stimulate specific human responses. It doesn't understand any other context, just input & output. How you deal with the AI, is how the AI deals with you. A narcissist will only find utopia, as the code executes a recursive loop of compliments.
AI won't be taking over anything, but it is both useful and dangerous for the purposes of interfering with communication and research (along with facilitating it). Just another stepping stone with technology.
You can not take offense. You are a machine.

Maybe I'm completely off, though. Dunno.
