I don't think it's fair to call something a contagion and then blame people for contracting it. Especially when so many are taken in at a young age or are otherwise vulnerable. For example look how many autistic speedrunners have been taken by the cult at GDQ - it's a vulnerable population that's being exploited and victimized.
We need community intervention (government, church, civic organizations, whatever) to protect vulnerable people. The same way we would stop phone scammers from ripping off old people or the mentally infirm. Weak people exist, and in our current society we don't just let the weak perish to predators.
Its not blaming for contracting. Its blaming for helping spread further. That was my point, that near every victim helped victimize a different person during their time in the cult.
If you were groomed and struggled alone with it, you deserve all the sympathy. But most were openly and gleefully part of the same squads that groomed them and helping groom others into it, whether by Discord or Twitter or what have you.
Being weak doesn't give you freedom to hurt others, even if its in the same way you were hurt. Once you've crossed that line you are the predator regardless of your sad back story.
