It's a meme website that was very popular during the early 2010s. They were hated by 4chan and Reddit because 90% of their content was stolen from the former two, and because the moderators censored and shadowbanned users who were critical of the website. It was considered "normie cringe" the same way tiktok would be now I guess. I used to be a frequent user between 2014 - 2016. It's just mind blowing to me how much the tides have changed, where 9gag is somehow the less cringe website.
Almost everything is fucking reposted on normie net and it's annoying, I think a lot of accounts are just bots because they certainly don't interact with anyone. The steam review pages for example are absolute cancer as a result of this and you see games just generically getting positive review spammed by bot accounts posting the exact same shit. This is potentially good though because it may encourage people to stop being normies and look further afield to places on the internet they wouldn't normally go to get original content.
That kind of reminds me of how more traditional left wing types are now considered far right by the current standards of cringe leftists, clown world is real.

When you see some white guy spinning a basketball on his finger used to advertise "showing your skills", it's pretty clear that a site is a useless piece of shit.

Reddit itself is largely a reposting site.
