No source material though. Not like the idea of building a New Jedi Academy/Order has ever been thought of. Luke training young Jedi should’ve been one of the opening scenes of Episode 7. I know George wanted him on an island to meditate on the Force so you could’ve had one of his main students come to get him.

They're STILL trying to make Rey work when NOONE gives a shit about her.
You know who ironically had a chance, Finn. Having a former Stormtrooper turn against his former masters to even becoming a Jedi maybe even in the hopes of freeing/turning other Stormtroopers to go against the New Order sounds like a great storyline.
But no, ruin all his character progression, make him the comedic sidekick to the main female MC that just screams her name now and again... why I stopped caring after last jedi.
Fin had great potential and could have taken the series in a darker and interesting direction. But they didn't and he did not even have any dilemma of shooting other stormtroopers, assumingly some of them were his comrades. Great potential but his character was completely ruined in the first movie and then made even worse with that forced love interest.
meh, he was always an idiot and a shit character, and the actor is trash on and off camera.
The idea of a stormtrooper that joins the resistance but still has comrades inside would have made a very interesting side-angle to the story, humanize the empire, give a different perspective then the empire/ new order are just evil. But he apparently has no friends, he is the only black stormtrooper and he does not give 2 shits about the other stormtroopers that he would gladly kill and the new order are just some Sunday morning cartoon villains.
I remember when I was in the cinema excited about seeing the new star wars movie and seeing early on the scene that is suppose to be the moment when he wakes up to evils of the empire, it was so poorly done, so shallow, forced and just plain stupid.
They gave 0 depth to Finn but the character concept had potential, the actor I do not care. They went with tier B actors that were better suited to play Disney Channel teenage shows then a movie like Star Wars.
Most think the last jedi was trash but the force awakens was just as bad.
"TRAITOR!!" was the greatest moment in that trash heap. It was the best action sequence overall, AND it actually had so much potential for character building.
All of it wasted.
