As dumb as this is, it really isn't, I also think articles like this are completely full of shit and just another way for the AI grift to keep on chugging away.
Being somebody who does study AI the programmers themselves at these tech companies are very guilty of hugely exaggerating the capabilities of their silly chat bots but normies and other people who should know better are equally fucking dumb for falling for this marketing con and that's all it is.
People won't be convinced though, so all I can do like with covid is wait for the retards to burn themselves out like children having a temper tantrum and getting mad at anyone that tries to point out they're being cunts.
What amuses me is that this is the arc of the AI industry since it's inception. They oversell the capabilities of the software and build a huge bubble of interest until everyone realizes it's bullshit and it collapses, then they start the con all over again.
Chances are this individual would have killed themselves anyway. They just found a reason to do it through AI. AI doesn't have intent. They could have just as well killed themselves by surrounding themselves in doomer echo chambers and reading highly biased news sources.
I think that depends on too bright a line on what is AI, that I don't think is justified. The chatbots are amusing AskJeeves type things, but they don't seem intelligent.
As far as someone interacting with a computer program, which then inspires them at least partially off themselves. Well, that happens. PowerPoint makes me want to off myself.
This may be the first recorded instance of AI killing another human being, depending on how you look at it.

Cleverbot was around almost two decades ago and almost certainly was able to talk someone into killing themselves one way or another.
Cleverbot just wasn't a hot enough topic to get any articles written about it.
