That said, even if this story is true, what kind of fool would buy property and store equipment with no security measures right next to the property of a person who obviously hates them in a town which has a reputation for that same hate? It is almost as though she was trying to provoke the exact reaction she received.

This questioning can be extended to racism and desegregation in general. Why would someone want to eat at a restaurant where the owner hates you because of your skin color? Or go to a school where the students are going to bully you because "your kind don't belong here"?
A martyr in their own mind/chosen one who will bring everyone together/a crusader fighting the good fight for the right side of history, regardless of actual outcome.
