Freedom of Preach – How a Street Preacher Was Arrested for 'Misgendering' – The Daily Sceptic
Christian street preacher David McConnell was arrested, held in a cell for 14 hours, charged with 80 hours community service and a £700 fine, and reported to Prevent. His crime? ‘Misgendering’ someone.
It's important to mention, as it says in the last quoted line in the post
Ridiculous that it happened, and he won't get the jail time back but at least the community service is dropped.
News story on this
The process is the punishment. The magistrates are volunteers, 'ordinary people', (apparently), they'll go with what the police and CPS (state prosecutor) says. The Crown Court, where he was granted his appeal, is headed by a 'proper' judge and saw his sentence for what it was. But the damage is done. He'll probably carry on public preaching but many of those who might want to follow his example will be put off.
Even in the UK, I doubt it was the SOLE reason. My money's on that he was a nuisance in an affluent leftist area by preaching virtues and morality as they were trying to be good virtue signallers so used the police to lock him up a bit on some nonsense laws on the books to hopefully scare him away from their area.
Of course it was the "SOLE" reason he went to court. It was the only way they could get him convicted on a 'public order' offence. If he hadn't said his blasphemy, they would have to come up with something far more creative, completely beyond their capabilities. He's an experienced public preacher so he knows how to handle himself while dealing with aggression. But with 'misgendering' being added to the ridiculous list of things now qualifying as "threatening, abusive or insulting speech" he is going find it near impossible to talk back to the demons.
Happens on reddit, too.
When you're an unwelcome right winger in a leftist sub that actually pretends to follow rules and not just ban outright for bias, what they will do is have some activist shithead come at you and pick a fight with you like the tranny did here. No matter how you respond (I know because I've tried every manner of response possible, including ignoring the person) you always get banned while the attackers does not.
One thing I haven't tried which I think would work better on reddit now, is to immediately block the attacker. That wouldn't stop their initial reports, but it would stop the attack in its tracks.
It's a common technique when like minded people want to purge "undesirables" from a community. Happens all the time.
The tranny came at this dude and started baiting him. He took the bait. He got arrested. The fact that he later won on appeal doesn't erase all the bullshit he was put through. Not only that, but he can't go out now and be like "GOD HATES TRANNIES" because the wording of the appeal decision prevents that.
He should've been quoting the Quran instead.
I need more proof for an incident like this than a blog post. Anyone can make shit up.
I'm sorry but you can easily Google him.
He was lucky to get the appeal. If he had said what he said with a little more aggression (he had left the "victim" "distraught" by referring to him as a "man" or "gentleman" nine times - the fact that this was recorded proves that it was the reason for his initial conviction, and every news article left or right goes with that) the sentence would have been upheld.
someone else posted the news article. all I'm saying is to link the article and not a blog, or at least a blog that itself links an article. that way we know this is legit.
It's unlikely this is true. Prevent is already filled with referals for "misogynists" and the UK is notoriously pro-TERF.
How can you disagree with me when there was an independent review that confirmed it to be true?
