Back in the late days of slavery, a "cake walk" was an event during the Yule break where the master would get all of the slaves together, and whichever family group did the best/funniest dance skit would get a cake.
It's worse, no? Almost nobody today knew about that connection or made that connection. The meaning of the word has changed into something completely different and inoffensive.
Yep. Reminds me how I recently heard someone saying that we shouldn’t say “he went off the reservation” or “he went native” anymore. I’ve only heard he went native as a joke now
