According to KPTV, the decision behind closing their location is due to poor performance and financial reasons.
“We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S. and unfortunately some do not meet our financial expectations,” Walmart said in its announcement. “While our underlying business is strong, these specific stores haven’t performed as well as we hoped.”
The two remaining locations that Walmart will be shuttering are at Hayden Meadows, and East Part Plaza with 580 employees currently employed at the two locations. Both locations will be closing on March 24th.
Seattle has seen stores closing for years now. Retail theft is just endemic any more.
Walmart leaving an area is generally a death knell to the decent lower income people there, they will have no options to buy from besides the hilariously unsafe dollar stores and knock-off grocery stores.
Not to mention that Walmart is one of the more dependable places to hire those who couldn't get/hold a job anywhere else. A problem that plagues the poverty stricken more than anyone, with their rap sheets, untreated mental issues, and low education.
So that explains why my local WalMart employs mouth-breathing, lazy, surly soul brothers and sisters and old white women with shin splints who lose their hearing when they work behind the deli counter..
And if that's what your local one is like, why would anyone work there except for those who literally have no other option between that and being homeless.
