23andme: HAHA, TAKE THAT, WIGHT SUPREMACISTS! We'll make you believe that you're part black. DIE MAD ABOUT IT.
White supremacist: Cool, I am 0.03% black! Now they can't complain when I say the word 'nigger'!
I'll bet anyone that more "black" people have been upset over the percentage of white DNA that they have than "white" people over the percentage of black DNA.
I see black people who are surprised by having white ancestry and it always confuses me how they can be clueless. I mean look at an African compared to a black American. Clearly you are either a little or a lot lighter for a reason. An African co worker once jokingly told me that I’m not pure African because my coffee has at least a few spoonfuls of cream. But all that to say it shouldn’t be surprising. I knew my last name came from a white guy. Also if you look at American slavery it wasn’t uncommon for the master to have a mistress amongst the slaves or have kids with his slaves.

Africans aren't real blacks, you know. They didn't even vote for Joe Biden. They're also privileged bastards who have never had to deal with racism in America.

Maybe they think that Africans just have a really dark tan.

Right, and these kids were often those who were set free - which gave them a head start in access to the dominant American culture, which at least in the 19th century was something to write home about. When proper blacks arrived in the north, who had less acculturation, people responded by passing laws that banned all blacks from restaurants, etc. This was the reason why the NAACP was founded, and it concerns were those of the mulatto elite - access to white neighborhoods and schools, which had been lost to the backlash to the Great Migraton.
Thomas Sowell writes about that in one of his books. But you also had black elites in New England where slavery was abolished before the founding (WEB Dubois come from that line). My gg grandfather was the child of his slave owner and a slave. He got a few acres of land from his dad and was given to the legitimate daughter of his slave master so his half sister.
On another side of the family I had a gg grandfather who was white from a blue blood family but claimed to be black (otherwise I wouldn’t be here). I’ve been doing research into his past but it’s hard to find. I did find his father and ancestry but I imagine something must have happened to cause him to live amongst blacks in the late 1800s

Yes, where do you think I got it?
He got land while still being a slave???
