What was the drama?
I did not follow it since I stop watching them some time ago.
When Crowder left Blaze, DW offered him a shitty contract that gave them control over pretty much everything plus huge finanical penalties if Big Tech censored him- could drop his "lucrative" deal to like 5% of what was offered, and that's the total money they were given to produce his show and play everyone involved.
Crowder did a video protecting DW's identity while criticising Big Con contracts (he even said this was standard among Big Con even if people did figure out who), DW's CEO did a 1 hr video trying to justify the contract, then they sicced every DW host onto Crowder- Candace Owens was just nasty calling Crowder a grifter (lol, takes one to know one), his audience stupid, etc while Matt Walsh licked all the DW choad.
Then Crowder released a clip of a phone call w/ DW CEO (a bad move IMO) yesterday while Ownens was on Beanie Man attacking Crowder left and right.
funny way of writing "they offered him $50 million dollars".
Yes, they were offering to buy his brand... for $50 million. Buying entails ownership. They didn't control his show, though, only the monetization.
The contract stated that if he was demonetized/banned for an extended period of time, his payment would be reduced. Why? Because DW monetizes through those platforms so they'd lose money, and they obviously aren't going to pay $50 million when they can't make that money back because he went full Kanye.
Yes if he got banned everywhere. Sure. And? Then don't sign the contract if you plan on getting yourself banned everywhere like Kanye, though even Kanye isn't banned from Youtube.
Considering his show is just him talking like a podcast, I can't imagine his overhead is large. He's not filming a Netflix series.
No, he didn't. He did everything but say the DW name, and everyone who watched it immediately knew he was referring to the DW.
except no, because he did not identify or criticize any other contracts or offer, he only singled out the DW.
false. The immediate reaction from the DW was only 2 things:
Ben Shapiro being very nice about it and saying it's sad/disappointing but he wishes Crowder the best and considers him a friend
Boering making a youtube video just going through the written offer to give context about how it isn't such a nasty thing, and also being very friendly towards Crowder
THEN CROWDER DROPPED THAT HE SECRETLY RECORDED BOERING ON A PERSONAL non-business PHONE CALL WITHOUT HIS KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT AS A SET UP.
THAT is what caused the rest of the DW hosts to come out swinging. Mega scumbag escalation move by Crowder.
yeah they're both grifters.
Nope. You got your timeline mixed up. I follow them all on twitter so I saw it. No one at the DW was doing jack shit to attack Crowder until after he dropped the bombshell of the recorded call. You purposely flipped the order of that to make Crowder seem like he was defending himself. Bullshit. Crowder has been the aggressor here every single step.
Over the span of 4 years. Also, it's pretty much a budget. That DW can take from him if his social media (that he no longer controls) gets punished.
Again, over 4 years. And it's a budget that he needs to use to pay people. Also, this fly-by-night contract is completely in DW's favor despite Crowder bringing more fans to DW than vice verse. By the way, if they "don't control his show", why the fuck are they giving themselves power to run his social media? You know, the same ones that will result in penalties against his budget if they even get hit with anything. Hmmmm, almost gives DW incentives to post things that would cause strikes and warnings.
I'm not doing a play-by-play because it's already clear you're either a shill or a fucking moron.
$12.5 million a year for Crowder is more than he's worth IMO. It's not a low ball offer, and Boering said he expected to go higher. Crowder's counter of $30 million per year was absurd and caused the DW to walk away because it was unworkable.
Crowder's show is a low budget podcast where he just talks. Idk what kind of budget you think that requires, but it has to be well under $1m per year even if he hired more staff than he needs.
DW offered to buy ownership of his official, not personal, social media presence. They did not "control" it other than to monetize it. He still controlled his content and what he said.
And DW has every right to guard against the possibility that Crowder might "go full Kanye" and self immolate his brand, especially if his contract said that DW bears all the risk of that and Crowder still gets his full paycheck. It's a perverse incentive to misbehave. Crowder doesn't misbehave now. He is very careful to keep his big Youtube channel up. So is Crowder doing the evil work of big tech now by censoring himself? Yes. He's a hypocrite.
I get that Crowder thinks that. I get that you are blindly parroting it from him without knowing the true facts.
Clearly, Crowder thought he was worth $30m/yr and DW thought he was worth maybe half that. The market will decide who was right. However, it is still a scumbag move for Crowder to knife the DW to try to line his own pockets.
"I'm too immature to disagree with someone who doesn't like a guy I'm a fanboi of without being an angry little asshole about it"
grow up.
