Has any proof at all been provided for this?
Unlike most people here, I can actually see both sides. Crowder wants the company to uphold principles. But the Daily Wire is taking a huge risk by spending so much money, and they want some assurances. You can't risk the future of a company on nothing. Both are correct. My heart is with Crowder and my head is with the Daily Wire.
Like I always tell you about politicians, all companies are also equally evil. They have to be, or they'd go out of business. Morally, it is indefensible to punish Crowder if he gets demonetized by SV oligarchs, but in business terms, it is probably inevitable.
I remember you bragging that workers in America have '3 sick days a year' (or something). I told you that in Europe, there is no such thing as a sick day, and if you're sick, you're sick. In this case, he gets his pay deducted if he gets sick at all. So I am on his side on that one, just like I support the railroad workers striking for sick days.
I see both sides actually. I just think that DW's side is invalidated because it accomplishes nothing in the long run. It's how England kept appeasing Hitler and slowly watched Europe be swallowed.
The appeasement analogy does not work, because the DW is not strong enough to take on Youtube, while England and France were strong enough to take on Germany in 1936 and 1938.
In fact, it makes sense to husband your strength and not rock the boat as the DW while you get stronger, if I want to play devil's advocate.
DW is solid enough already to have an alternative viewing platform because they do. Punishing for being demontized on YouTube shouldn't be uttered much less written in a contract offer
As long as you can also see the point for DW.
Both Shapiro and Boering said so. I don't see why they would if it wasn't true. The point they made is that their number was too far apart from what Crowder wanted, so they politely let him know they couldn't do it and didn't proceed further. In other words, it makes sense and fits the facts. Crowder hasn't denied it afaik.
I can see both sides, I just don't like Crowder's "side" or what he did.
That's bullshit. The DW contract doesn't violate any principles. Crowder's primary business is his Youtube channel. That was true last year and it's true now. Crowder routinely censors himself on Youtube and openly says so. So he's a giant hypocrite to attack DW for expecting him to continue to do what he is already doing on that particular platform.
Do you think DW ought to pay Crowder in full if he takes the deal and then says "haha bitches I'm going full Kanye now and you can't do shit about it!!!" That's dumb.
DW just wanted to apportion the risk so that Crowder bore part of the risk of his own actions, so that he would have every incentive to maintain effectively the status quo instead of doing something crazy which could nuke their investment in him.
Profit seeking is not evil. You sound like a communist. Capitalism and its system of checks and balances enable people to behave SELFISHLY in a manner that accrues to the common GOOD. This harnessing of human selfishness and making it strive towards the betterment of humanity is not evil, it is the very definition of goodness. Altruism is not inherently "good". If everyone was irrationally altruist, humanity would stagnate and be stuck in poverty forever since no one would strive and sacrifice out of ambition.
Sure, capitalism is not perfect and people find wants to exploit it, which is why Ancap is stupid and unworkable, but on the whole, capitalism and rational self-interest are the only reason why you and I can sit in a nice home and type to each other across the world on a computer. All advanced human development traces to it.
"You have to pay me full boat even if I purposely tank the value of my brand" is a good way to destroy a company by enabling perverse incentives. The purpose of contracts is to provide guidelines so everyone behaves according to expectations and there are no surprises.
No, I didn't "brag" about that. California has 3 days. The US as a whole has no requirement. Despite this, the average workers get is 8 days, because it turns out that companies will give people benefits even if not mandated by the government.
He isn't a salaried employee. He is a business owner who would be basically licensing his business to another company for 4 years. His pay did not get deducted if he got sick, it got reduced IF HE DIDN'T PRODUCE THE CONTENT HE WAS BEING PAID FOR, which is perfectly fair. The contract only calls for 4 shows per week, with 4 weeks off per year. That's a lot less than most Americans work. Many hosts keep a bank of some pre-recorded shows that they have available to use to cover things like sickness and vacation, not because of a contract, but because the algo punishes you if you don't release on a regular schedule.
They are both actively involved in this controversy, and defending themselves, so not exactly the most reliable narrators here.
You always think that you are very objective. But it's clear that you are anti-Crowder, even insulting him personally. So not very objective.
I like them both. I'm actually a DW+ subscriber.
And yet he got demonetized, something that the contract prop says would get his salary reduced.
It is not in his control. You are definitely wrong for suggesting that it is 'due to Crowder's actions' if he does get banned or demonetized. Surely, as the most banned person here, you would know that.
No, but let me ask you the counterpoint. If Crowder just posts innocuous content, and Youtube decides to ban him because of a lisping millionaire-kid communist Mexican complains about it - should he be punished for it?
That can be better expressed than it was here, by limiting it to such cases where he actually crosses the line. As a lawyer, you know that.
You think a lot of things sound like communism. But surely, an FSB contractor needs to keep up appearances.
No, this is absurd. You are paraphrasing Adam Smith, but what he said is that the butcher's selfishness is guided by an invisible hand to benefit the common good, not that the selfishness is automatically a moral good. And it's not a good here either, though I am very happy the DW exists.
It's not evil to try to protect your country's national security against say dangerous neighbors either, but you definitely would not claim that anything using that as a pretext is the definition of goodness.
Some will. But even 8 days is rather paltry. As bad as our governments are, and they are terrible, but I'll give them credit for stuff like this.
You are conflating the number of shows a week with the number of days worked. I can't speak about the matter, but according to that "Australian Mormon sword guy" you hate so much, it takes him a full workweek to produce two videos. Now, he no doubt has less staffing, but it's not as easy as you make it out to be.
So you redline that part. Big deal.
A LOT of big youtubers don't monetize or let themselves stay demonetized because they monetize their Youtube viewership in other ways, and couldn't care less about Youtube's shitty ads. When I've seen breakdowns of revenue, at most Youtube ads only make up like 15% of the monetization a big channel gets. Most of the real money comes from ad reads, merch, and farming subs to things like patreon or their own web site.
I see a lot of youtubers say shit like "omg youtube is demonetizing me!!! show them they can't stop us by subscribing to my patreon!!!" Youtube ads aren't even that lucrative, and people like me have never seen one because I've been adblocking since forever.
It 100% is within his control, outside of very unusual circumstances, as he full well knows since it is his primary platform. Big channels like him get special treatment and don't get banned easily, moreso because he does politics and if he got banned, the whole Right would get up in arms. This actually happened once years ago and Ben Shapiro personally intervened with Youtube to help Crowder.
I get banned on Reddit. Reddit is a bunch of seething libtard trannies. Youtube doesn't ban as easily as Reddit does.
So DW would give him a 90 day grace period and fight on his behalf before anything changed. If that didn't work out, there are legal principles such as "mutual mistake of fact" where the contract would fail and the parties could re-negotiate. The contract does not specifically contemplate "what if your ban is total bullshit and outside of your control". This is once again something that could be negotiated.
Lawyers are not PR agents or diplomats. The lawyer's job is to protect the client.
No, I just made it up. It's just my own opinion.
Capitalism is what transforms it into a public good, by using it to fuel a fundamentally fair system driven by impartial market forces where everyone is forced into good behavior out of self interest. I didn't say "selfishness is goodness" I said "harnessing selfishness to produce good is goodness". That is what capitalism does.
Ukraine was minding its own business and no threat to Russia. Russia bullied it and invaded because Putin wanted the legacy of a conqueror and to expand Russian power through imperial conquest. You yourself, early in the war when you thought victory was possible, gleefully added up Ukraine's population size and natural resources into Russia's column like it was a video game of map painting conquest, where Russia would somehow use Ukraine's population and resources to launch its next war of aggression until it took over the whole world and Putin finally stopped the gay pride parades. lol
No no no. Shadversity makes hours-long videos he spends a ton of time researching and getting assets and such for. Crowder's content is nothing like that, it's exactly like Ben Shapiro's daily show. He just sits at a desk alone and talks to the camera.
Ben Shapiro has already explained what his daily work schedule is like. His daily show only takes a couple hours to do. This makes sense, since all he is doing is riffing on the day's headlines. He spends the vast majority of his day on social media, with family, and working on side projects.
The demands placed on Crowder were actually really low, and MUCH lower than what Ben does himself. Ben does his show 5 days a week, does 2 shows (one for youtube, one for DW's site) though it's really just 1 show split. He also does college speaking events and debates, does side projects like his book club, writes actual books, and runs DW itself.
All Crowder was being asked to do was basically 5-10 hours a week on making daily shows, and then 1 small project per quarter and 1 bigger project per year. It's basically a part time work schedule. Maybe 20 hours a week. It would free him up for a ton of stuff on the side or let him just take it easy and relax.
IDK how people in this sub are sitting there acting like Crowder was being slave-driven. When I worked at law firms they worked me to the bone, 60+ hour weeks were normal.
But then you contradict your own point that it's totally justified (or maybe you think this was one of the parts that should be struck out) to penalize Crowder 20% or whatever it was, for being demonetized.
The fact that they demonetized and then tried to ban him for mocking a lisping communist homosexual Mexican speaks volumes. That they didn't succeed 100% last time is no reason to say that it is in his own hands. It may be not be as bad as Reddit, but that is not saying much.
It speaks only of bans, which would cover "when your ban is total bullshit and outside your country".
Eh, I'm sure you can write a provision that penalizes Crowder if he goes over the line intentionally, but not if he is attacked by Youtube without adequate cause.
It's almost word for word Adam Smith, so you definitely got it from him, even if unconsciously.
Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist. Madmen in authority, who hear voices in the air, are distilling their frenzy from some academic scribbler of a few years back.
And I agree, but then it follows that not everything done in the name of that is good.
That shithole puppet non-country was importing weapons, attacking the Donbas, threatening to produce nuclear weapons days before the start of the war, and lobbying the US to sanction Nord Stream 2. Most certainly not minding its own business.
Possible? Guaranteed, if Russia keep its act together.
That sounds like the fantasy of anti-Russia morons.
From what I have seen, he has quite a bit of prepared material. So it is not as easy as you suggest.
You work harder for yourself than you do for others.
See, I heard about that, and that's why I decided to become a Reddit mod and not a lawyer. I'm a lazy European.
Remember when Shapiro claimed that Trumps security threw his coworker to the ground
