I personally follow the "judge by content of character" philosophy as a Christian because despite knowing about statistics and demographic data I'm willing to give any individual a chance.
I do this too, but not until after I get to know more about a stranger. I'm a lot less willing to relax around a Black stranger (especially one who dresses like a hoodrat) than I am around an Asian. Stereotypes exist for a reason after all.
Stereotypes exist for a reason indeed. I remember a study they did where they asked people who they considered a thug and showed them photos of people across all races. The ones who dressed like a hood rat regardless of race were called thugs. So just like stereotypes are there for a reason, perception is reality so like you said a black dude dressed like a hood rat won’t get the same benefit of the doubt as a black dude dressed nicely.
