They have a black Superman movie from 1997, it's called Steel and starred Shaquille O'Neal.
Seriously, there's nothing wrong with that character, and if Warner Brothers had developed a long-term plan instead of just throwing out the Synderverse movies as fast as possible, they could have actually made another Steel movie riffing off the Reign of the Supermen storyline.
Now, it's probably too late. The MCU is collapsing under its own weight as audiences prove that giving C-Tier characters their own movies doesn't pay off, and superhero movie fatigue is setting in across the board.
Yah, the C-Tier characters are the problem.
I love Steel. Always liked his story about how he was inspired by Superman to step up and fight crime when he died. You are right. The death of Superman and Reign of Supermen could’ve been done very well
I'm not really a comic book guy, so I don't know anything about Steel's origin story.
But if they were to make a Steel movie today, the first thing they'd do is show how he was stronger, faster, and better than Superman, and how everybody loved him more right away. And Superman purposefully kept Steel out of the spotlight because he was really an insecure mediocre white man who actually stole his powers from Steel, and even when he had his stolen powers he wasn't really that great to begin with.
Sad but true. Which sucks because he was a good character. At least I thought so.
Steel is badass and deserves an original treatment with a great director.
