In a way I can kinda agree with their first part though as then you could consider canadians "americans" as they're technically a part of north america. The fact they don't want to be associated with africa harkens back to the whole quebec/canada debate, where oftentimes you have one part of a continent that is so shit that you don't want to be put in the same group as them.
In the same vein African is often used as a stand in for black, regardless of veracity. The two even collided in African American as a stand in for black United Statesian.
Impressively it seems even random people on the street in Egypt speaking English as a second/third language know better than to try to use Africanoid to draw a distinction.
