I get what you're saying, but that is not a great way of phrasing it. Mathematically, 2 + 2 DOES in fact equal 2 + 2. They are the same thing. And of course, they also equal four.
A better way to put it would be NPCs: "2 + 2 doesn't HAVE to equal four!". Which is obviously wrong because no matter how the end result is worded, the sum of 2 + 2 is always equal to four.

You did miss the point actually. NPCs can't process information, they can only repeat it.
