Thankfully open source lasts forever. I just started working with 1.4 right before this update and the license was already annoying and woke enough... but since they put it on the Internet it can't be stopped. They can't force everyone to comply with the license either. The only way to gimp it now would be infecting everyone with the woke mind virus so we all self-censor by choice.
The genie is out of the bottle. I think we'll see an explosion of novel discoveries in this field in the next 1-5 years, not unlike when id software open-sourced their 3D engines.
That and when Valve released Source Film Maker.
Which went the way of all technology. Makes porn.
Stable diffusion can run on my own pc?
Mine is fine when it comes to temps. I don't train often though.
It's extremely demanding of even top-end computers, but yes. I tried to run it on mine, it took one look at my GPU and just said "lol no."
Do you have a NVIDIA card? It can work on AMD but out of the box acceleration requires NVIDIA's CUDA framework. Also supposedly 10GB of VRAM is required but it's very possible to run with less. Check out the Web-UI by AUTOMATIC1111 for the version that's easiest to run on Windows, with important optimizations already enabled.
But if you can't run that, they still have the demo for 1.4 here. It's only slightly gimped.
Oh and theoretically you could run it without a graphics card but that takes about 10 minutes to generate one picture.
