This is from 2021 and afaik it was accurate. Flu is definitely back this year; my school system had 400 teachers out last week. It's way more than were ever out with coof at one time but no one seems to care (which is of course the proper response). I don't think it's that weird that one group of viruses are suppressed when a second group moves in on its niche and temporarily outcompetes it.
Yeah the guy has a 2022 followup post about it. Dunno why OP didn't just link to that one.
Flu seems going strong over here in the part of California I'm in, as well. Son caught it at school, brought it home. We've all had it now for a couple of days.
When he went back, he told me that he had 4 classes with substitute teachers, and it seemed like more than a third of each class was out.
I know that most people who think they got the flu didn't, and it was just a normal cold. I'm like 80% sure this was the flu, though. Seemed to match up. Rapid onset. Fever. All body ache. Chills. Headache.
Worst part was that he had just brought us home a regular - pretty mild - cold a week and a half before this.
I was sicker last week and the beginning of this week than I have been in years with some sort of respiratory virus. I called out sick from work for 3 days even though I work from home, which is pretty unusual for me. I just didn't want to get out of bed to do anything. Normally even if I decide I'm too sick to work or go to the gym or whatever I at least get out of bed and try to take a walk for my health.
I didn't get tested for Corona or go to the hospital or anything, but it sucked. Lots of people at my work were out, too, and the local grocery store was sold out of "cold" medicine.
