My opinion on this article: a bunch of Afghan refugees are making up some bullshit "omg Wagner MIGHT recruit us!" in order to scare someone into giving them lots of money and a plane ticket to the US. It's a pathetic and obvious grift. It's obvious on the face of the article: "The 35-year-old captain, father to four young children, said he was still hopeful that he would be resettled in Britain."
According to the US military, we evacuated in August 2021:
6,000 Americans and more than 73,500 third-country nationals and Afghan civilians. This last category includes special immigrant visas, consular staff, at-risk Afghans and their families.
Considering how many Afghans we took out as "refugees" I would like to think we actually took out the very few men who were willing to fight for us, assuming they hadn't already surrendered by that point.
Only a few hundred senior officers were evacuated when the republic collapsed.
Honestly I am not going to take Lynne O’Donnell, an Australian journalist and author's, word for that.
Now, they are jobless and hopeless, many commandos still waiting for resettlement in the United States or Britain, making them easy targets for recruiters
So now she is describing men who got out. So which is it, did they get out or not? Because nobody in Afghanistan is still "waiting for resettlement".
This potentially makes them easy pickings for Russian recruiters
potentially = a work of speculative fiction
Wagner is a shady organization that officially doesn’t exist but is believed to be run by Yevgeny Prigozhin
Anyway this is a dumb white woman writing this, and she's being grifted by some broke ass Afghans who want to threaten to join Wagner (which they have 0 intention of doing because they're cowards and don't want to die, hence why they didn't fight the Taliban) in the hopes of getting a plane ticket to white peepow land and some money.
Also many people few months ago laughed at the idea of the Iranian weapons, and great most of Afghans taken to America were absolute randoms just scooped from the Karzai Intl (or simply forced their way into the planes) among with only like 600 members of one of the NDS Zero Units who guarded the place alongside the American paratroopers (I think mostly 02 and elements of 03).
Umm yes, the Afghan government was a US nation building project that we propped up, and the Afghans were fighting to defend globohomo women's rights and other shit like that that ran counter to their own historical culture and religion. So yes, these Afghans were fighting more for the US and the other globohomo powers who showed up than for "Afghanistan".
I wouldn't call the Afghan government a "puppet", because we couldn't just tell it what to do - as evidenced by Biden trying to ask the Afghans to downplay how bad things were until the pullout instead of simply issuing a directive as one would to a puppet, or by giving advice instead of orders. Russia sure as fuck isn't asking its puppet in Kherson to do things, it's ordering him. He doesn't have a choice.
And, of course, there is a world of difference between Afghanistan and Ukraine, where Ukraine was never a US puppet in any sense, and was instead a fully independent country exercising its self determination.

I absolutely agree. But I thought it was an unintentional admission on your part, which is why I highlighted it.

On a scale of 0 to Ukraine, I'd say it's Ukraine.

You have very little leverage over a country when you are pulling support and the government is literally about to fall. It's as if the US stopped supporting and delivering weapons to Vladimir Zelensky, and bribing Ukrainian politicians.
Obviously, there is no mechanism by which the US could possibly puppeteer people directly. Even Moscow could not directly puppeteer its vassal states, as evidenced by Alexander Dubcek and Nagy.

Fully independent. Yatsenyuk is going to be Prime Minister.

LOL yes they do. Get out of here with that James Bond shit. They have a very lengthy and detailed wikipedia page. They aren't some clandestine organization. Also he admitted he founded Wagner a month ago. How does this woman work for a major media org and not even have a wikipedia level of fact checking? lol

Russian mercenary army, named after its commander who calls himself Wagner.
