And that goes on with so many aspects of life. "I need my Starbucks/coffee" instead of asking why you need an addiction to caffeine. Using the dopamine rush of complaining about a problem as a greater high than the simple return to neutral of not having a problem at all. Letting yourself be lonely and changing standards, instead of working to enjoy yourself enough that neither relationship or single is much worse than the other. Etc, etc.
Would you say if they have achieved such a dependency on the dopamine hit that it near complete dependency is better to have them naturally crash (which would be the eventual outcome ) rather than forcing a intervention?
Stimuli overload is a problem in basically all of modern society. We are bombarded from all angles by so much stimulus, and in turn dopamine from much of it, that even from youth we are gaining tolerance and addiction to it before we can even fathom the damage it is doing. There cannot be a real crash simply because existing in society will make sure we do not.
One must truly begin to grasp the threads of their own life to begin to pick away at them one string at a time to slowly free themselves of that. And it can only happen in small enough doses to grant the strength to make sure they don't creep back when you focus elsewhere.
So going hermit is not a solution then? Something I think was good was my family forcing me to go on vacation in the middle of nowhere where even cellphone reception was gone, still these days there are not many areas where a cellphone cannot reach.
Well are we talking hermit like you don't go out much, or hermit like Uncle Ted? Because only the Uncle Ted option would truly be effective and most lack the ability to remain sane in such asocial environments. Nor would society/government allow that to be an option if more than a sparse handful did it.
The human condition is one of constant struggle, as it always has been. As technology has advanced to remove the physical struggles that kept us grounded in ages past, the struggle has become mental. Its not something you just "solve" or can create a perfect solution to. Its one that you deal with your own faults and weaknesses daily, finding a way to properly subdue them to make yourself not chained to them.
Funnily enough, its something Alcoholics Anonymous of all places figured out. I have a lot of issue with their methods, but that aspect is one that has allowed them to outdo most other rehabilitation methods. Same with some NoFap guys, though that's mostly in theory they have figured out a problem needing solved rather than their methods.
Interesting, As always knowing oneself is key.
