I read them as a kid and even then realized that the men were all heavily emasculated and stupid or evil. The women were always the smartest person in the room and Dumbledore was retconned to be gay, because the one competent old man had to be gay. Rowling can’t write a masculine male to save her life and it shows through the books, I quit after 4 because it was tediously bad and obvious she was going to continually kill off any positive male influences. Know what actual 12 year old boys do? Fight, compete, and create social stacks out of those competitions.
Well yes when I was 12 i did all that as well as discovering how great women looked. At least Harry was a hero. I didn’t get tired of the strong female who is better than all the guys trope til later
See I was reading Greek mythology, lotr/ hobbit, and books like Enders game, redwall etc at the same time as Harry Potter and the stark contrast in the positive male influences and boys actually acting like boys was a stark contrast
I can see that. Growing up I read a lot of sci fi and paranormal books but sci fi back then had good male characters. I didn’t read Tolkien til I was in my 30s (watched the cartoons growing up) and we read Greek mythology in school. But I get your point. Unfortunately I didn’t understand the value of positive male influences til a bit later because growing up in the 80s tv was full of them and I had my father, grandfather, uncles, brothers, etc. you don’t realize the need til it’s gone
Really? I read them as an adult but I liked them. Granted I don’t look at kids/teens that way

As a kid I always wondered why none of the fuckers were into physical fitness
