I've got a weird theory. What if the hit and like count is based on user satisfaction. The website gets more money if the users think they are popular. Several friends and I had blogs that got decent hits, but none of it made sense. The majority were Linux users from websites that posted links with no explanation. In Russian no less.
We finally realized it was paid for hits to make us feel like we had readers.
Now, if the poster is female, they demand higher satisfaction. This means more fake hits. If the female makes it obvious this is a woman, then it gets more hits and leverage to give her the higher satisfaction. If she hid that, it's still mostly bots, but at an expected average amount.

Reddit is not nearly sophisticated enough to automatically figure out if a user is a man or a woman.
