I guess this is why Bob's Burgers almost seems fresh.
A normal couple with three kids, trying to run a small business.
This show would have been totally lost amongst all the other shows I grew up with, before Married: With Children came along and set the tone we're still getting vis a vis family sitcoms. The only real difference is the post-FCC content, like booger jokes and the sight of toilets and stuff.
I know that’s a popular show but I just couldn’t get into it. Simpsons is my all time favorite show (golden years especially) and I know it influenced Bob’s Burgers but I didn’t think it was funny. Maybe I’ll give it another try. Also like Futurama, Family Guy, King of the Hill, and South Park but there is some decline in quality
It's almost kind of an acquired taste. I got into it kind of slowly, too, same with King of the Hill. It's probably that "why aren't these live-action?" vibe, but once you watch it, yeah, it's better off as a cartoon, heh. Especially with the one-off, more surreal episodes (mostly literal fever dreams. Which leads me to wonder what they would have done, surrealism-wise, if late-season Night Court had been a cartoon ...)
I guess I can identify with Bob Belcher because of the way his family and friends rope him into stupid shit he'd rather not do and knows it'll go to hell (take a shot/toke every time he says "Oh, God.") when he just wants to make burgers and get by quietly.

Well I did love Night Court. I live in Texas and while King of the Hill is great, I think it’s even funnier when you are aware of Texas culture
Well, I've gathered that Texans prefer charcoal, so far ...
