Agreed. IMO this trailer looks much better put-together than the last ones but even within just the context of how they've been trying to hype RoP, Amazon has made wayyyy too many missteps and showed their hand too early through their media shills (including subverted fan groups like TheOneRing.net and the Tolkien Society) to possibly make up for it. The absolute cringy embarrassment that was the 'superfans' video alone is unforgettable, and unforgivable.
Speaking of shills, they seem to be out in force in the comments, and I'm sure in the LOTR subreddits too. For whatever good they might do Amazon at this stage.
I read the WOT books about a year and a half before the show came out. Reading the summary I couldn’t believe how much they butchered the books
Complete rape and pillage. I was appalled.
I hate hate hate when they say “we are updating for a modern audience”
Ha!
Yeah, it doesn't look super shit from the trailer. But it also looks quite generic? I personally have no clue what this is going to be about except it follows Galadriel apparently (it's the only name I recognize) and she goes against the advice of evil elven men who know better!
And blacks. Yeah.
All the “representation” aside the shills haven’t worked this hard since TLJ and female ghostbusters. That alone makes me suspect
Worst thing is that there are genuine opportunities for 'representation' that would've made sense in-universe. Middle-earth isn't just Gondor/Arnor/Rohan/Mordor/Isengard after all. And in the Second Age? Fuck, we could've had a show set in Rhun, starring Jet Li or whoever as the Easterling king who would become Khamul (second-in-command of the Nazgul behind the Witch-King). Show us his struggles with his court & family full of characters played by other Asian actors as they argue for or against accepting the second of the Nine Rings delivered by Sauron, the internal conflict between his ambition and his sense of honor and how the former ultimately trumps the latter, the wars that may have driven him to take the Ring in hopes of using its power to protect his people only for it to ultimately hollow out & enslave him (as the One would have done to Boromir), etc.
Or if the Asians count as white today and you gotta have an all-black cast instead, it'd have been as simple as setting the show in Harad.
But no, Amazon had to shove the diversity into the places where it'd make the least possible sense and stick out the most. I've gotten to the point where I have to think this is deliberate, done on purpose to spite Tolkien's memory and fans, because it would have been as easy as visiting the Tolkien Gateway or any of the other LOTR Wikis (not even cracking open the books) to start figuring this stuff out.
And that’s the problem. These people buy these IPs and don’t care about lore and don’t bother studying. Like you said there was a way to put in the diversity they want
It is. We've already seen from WoT that their gay idea of "representation" is fake too. They don't care about having diverse minorities in contextually logical situations. What they want is to completely destroy White European literature. What they want is to push a globohomo world view where every scene is either mixed or majority BIPOC to normalize the idea that we'll all live in the same rainbow cities - food courts of culture where every day just walking down the street is an adventure and you never know who will rip you off or try to stab you that day. Everyone must become rootless, interchangeable cogs to easily be manipulated by the elites. This isn't a vast conspiracy by the producers, they are themselves cogs who have been turned into vectors of the mind virus of woke that controls all institutions.
A shame I’m so jaded with modern entertainment. Honestly Amazon has the money to hire people to come up with an original fantasy. I guess if this group recommends or Drinker or Nerdrotic say it’s good I’ll give it a try. Otherwise I’m not holding my breath
Nerdrotic has already laughed at the trailer and pointed out it's not canon. Even the show producers have admitted it's not cannon. So if you like Tolkien fanfiction by all means consume. :)
Please for the love of god stop consuming propaganda.
This will never be Lord of the Rings, but at least it's looking a little less bad on the technical and visual sides now. Even if they're just copying Peter Jackson's look.
Some of the landscapes look great, in my opinion. Almost all the cast look terrible or borderline uncanny valley. In conclusion, it's still a dumpster fire and an absolute insult to LotR, but at least some of the dumpster fire is pretty.
