Nuclear is, and until something changes at the legislative level, will always be, uneconomical.
Carter cut off nuclear fuel reprocessing by executive order, and every corporation involved in it lost a buttload of money. Regan reversed that EO, but no one will invest money into nuclear energy capital with a 20,30, or longer recapitalization window if a President can make the corporation involved eat all the costs instantly.
Congress, as usual, is doing fuck all, putting on a show trial just to punish anyone associated with one man.
We have reactor designs that are impossible to melt down, now, but the costs to build them are astronomical, and politically are very unpopular. Until that changes, nuclear will be a no go.
That isn't an argument against nuclear power. That is an argument for removing the irresponsible and evil elite class that is prohibiting it in favor of desecrating the land with solar panels.
Or those awful wind turbines that cost as much to decommission and "bury" as they do to construct, all to generate shitty undependable amounts of energy.
