Agreed. Men are more likely to be murdered or otherwise have street violence committed against them than women are. Those stats are clear.
My point is, what men are those? Is the violence by and large random? Is this representative of your everyday man? Because, from what I recall, it wasn't. The majority of that violence was gang-related. The men affected were mostly involved in that life, not random unaffiliated men.
So, again, I totally agree statistically men are more likely to be murdered or attacked. But is a normal man more likely to be assaulted walking a city at night than a normal woman is? I'm not convinced of that. The stats are largely skewed by young men voluntarily engaging in dangerous shit that leads to them getting attacked.
And, for the record, I'm not 'victim-blaming' or anything. Men have plenty of terrible things done to them by society, and are largely treated badly. I'm not trying to sweep any of that under the rug; men have issues, men can use support and, yes, in many, many ways women have it easier. But I also believe in accuracy, and I don't think what you're implying is an accurate read of the data I've seen. You're not talking men in general, you're talking that specific subset, when it comes to street violence, and that throws off the stats big time.
Women being afraid walking around at night isn't representative of your everyday woman either.
When you break down the stats on assault on women, both simple physical assault and sexual assault, the vast majority are intimate partner violence or otherwise perpetrators the woman knows
Hmm, that's funny.
When a woman gets herself drunk every weekend and one weekend she gets raped, we're supposed to think it's not her fault and there was nothing she could do.
But when a needs money for food and rent, and feels his only worthwhile option is joining a gang, suddenly it's "voluntarily engaging".
Men in the ghetto join gangs because of the same social dynamics that cause men in better areas of town to be almost all of the police, army, and pizza drivers (an occupation more hazardous than being a cop) - women and society push any dangerous or risky work onto men.
Source needed, because this sounds a lot like feminist fantasy.
I know that men are the ones pushed into more dangerous jobs, if we were just talking deaths rather than specifically murders. Which genders is most represented in these fields?
