If we sit idly by and allow Russia to re-constitute the Soviet Union as a new evil empire we will have to fight inevitably in a hot war once it crosses a deep enough line, the cost of that war will be astronomical, in both lives and money.
So it is extremely cheap and efficient to simply cut Russia out of global trade and inflict as much economic damage on it as possible now, even if that means losing some modest "profits" from trade with Russia. Of course this is only being done in an extremely half assed way, now. We should be decoupling more aggressively.
The bigger issue is doing the same with the Chinese Communist Party, which represents a threat 10x more potent than Putin's pipe dreams. The economic pain will be significant since we foolishly allowed ourselves to become dependent on China for a lot of shit, but it's a price worth paying to secure peace and prosperity in the long term.
Normally I agree with your takes, but Putin is one of the few people in the world who is standing against globalism. His party is a nationalist conservative party. He's not seeking to reform the Soviet Union, Ukraine joining nato literally threatens Russia's interests.
He said Ukraine is a fake country and make a clear attempt to conquer all of it at the outset of the war.
Ukraine didn't join NATO, and had no path to joining NATO, and NATO has a rule against anyone engaged in a conflict (which Ukraine was) even being put up for consideration

Absolutely false, by being so stupid about it, Putin made globalism much worse. The global domination of capitalist democracies is not "globalism". The true warriors against globalism are people like Trump/Republicans, and right wing political parties in places like Europe and Japan. The real threat of "globalism" is that it pushes left wing cultural values on everyone.
Capitalism and Democracy, though? Those are just objectively correct. Everyone in the world would be better off in a capitalism democracy instead of some bullshit dictatorship or socialism. The only threats to capitalist democracy is empire-building. The last great empire was the USSR, and it was defeated and shattered after it utterly failed to keep up economically over the course of 40 years. Russia poses no real threat, since it's so laughably weak now. The only moderate threat that remains is China, and only because the West gave China all the money to become a threat in the 1st place, but even then, China will lose, it's just a question of how many people will need to die to break the back of the CCP.

Yeah, we should wall ourselves off from the rest of the world.
And all the degenerate leftists are on this side of the wall.
And they’re in charge.
One ticket to Russia, please.
