$300 for two seems exorbitant for 2 in New York City, let alone all of New York State. Especially as an average. It means that there's a $500 for every $100 date.
I've been in a bunch of those states, and those values all seem double my experience (and what I know from a lot of other's as well).
The only way these numbers check out is factoring in alcohol costs, of which most people pay absurd amounts in general. There are a lot of retarded people dropping 100s$ a night at the clubs on just drinks.
Yeah that's absurd, and part of the reason why I don't think club/bar dates should be casually lumped in with regular dates.
For those costs I could buy enough alcohol to drink in my backyard to get me and my other wasted twice over. And if they are such strangers to not be willing to go to your house, you shouldn't be spending that kind of money to begin with.
It is. But Match tends to be geared toward older (as in late 20s and up) people with their shit together who want to get married and start having kids. First dates among that kind of crowd usually involve both parties flexing their disposable income as a way to signal their suitability as a mate.

Tinder: However much it costs to get treated for gonorrhea, plus the price of a quart of Karkov
It's easy to spend that in NYC at an upscale restaurant if you factor in 2 to 4 drinks. You can also get way cheaper costs depending on where in the city you go. Downtown or Soho? Big costs. Elsewhere, not so bad.

When I was in NYC $18 a drink was pretty common unless you went out a bit. Even then, regular house drinks ran around $12.
