Decided to be a masochist and look up Halfbreed by Cher today because I wanted to know a little more than lyrics. Didn't get the info I was after, since I forgot to look it up as I was too busy laughing for the two minutes it took to finish reading this:
https://archive.ph/revbK - The song offers a scenario in which oppressive whites call her "Indian squaw", and (falsely) claims that Native Americans did not accept her as one of their own because she was considered white according to "Native law".[3] (However, the Cherokee are a matrilineal society, meaning a child born to a Cherokee mother is accepted as Cherokee, no matter the nationality or ethnicity of the father; such a situation could arise in the other direction with a native father and white mother.)[4]
Someone actually took the time to type that. Is there a wojak for this person? I need to believe there is. God, can you imagine this person's life? I can't, it hurts to laugh this hard with my current back and neck injury.
Second bit of humor came from a recommended youtube vid. I wanted to get the short and sweet story about the SS Arctic instead of a 38 minute cinematic self-sucking blowjob of some fucking Michael Moore wannabe. Cross-checking did not fail to deliver:
https://archive.ph/WnRIV - the principle of "women and children first" was ignored. From around 400 on board (250 passengers, 150 crew), 24 male passengers and 61 crew survived; all the women and children died. No one was called to account for the disaster, and no official enquiry was held.
I know that last line is supposed to be a statement of fact, but it felt more like some bitchy comment made by an immature woman who just lost an argument. Love that they couldn't give shit about the men who died, but 'it's supposed to be women and children, they didn't care about the women and children! What about the women and children!' Throw in the typo and I busted out laughing.
Upon being rescued, the survivors requested to be left in their lifeboat for another week as that was the first time in their lives that the men experienced peace and quiet.
I mean, I can understand letting the women die ...
So the crew of 150 (not listed what percentage were men, but I'll bet it was high) mostly decided to fend for themselves using the life rafts that could support 180 people.
No numbers about who actually got on the boats, what happened to the boats, what happened to the other passengers, or how people died. Just "85 men survived, therefore it's problematic."
It doesn't give any information to support the thesis. Did the men survive clinging to debris or makeshift rafts while women and children died clinging to debris or makeshift rafts? Big surprise -- the stronger and more able-bodied people were able to survive a harsh situation longer. Did they survive because they got on board the lifeboats with the crew? Did everyone on the boats that were recovered live? Did everyone else (except the captain) die? What happened besides "85 men lived"?
What an awfully written article. D+ because it's generally at least grammatically correct.
Enquiry is apparently british. Don't care. It's still misspelled. Like smelt. Smelt is either a fish or melting down a metallic object to purify it.
UNFATHOMABLY BASED
LOL! Considering the class of those involved, I like to think they were too busy arguing about seating arrangements to even notice the ship was going down.
