I remember seeing a tankie correctly identify the situation, but use a phrase for it incorrectly.
They were praising the scientists and teachers and how we need to protect them, because they'll be "first against the wall in these authoritarian times because they have power and skills to keep people free. And tell them the truth".
That came from a current teacher. Not realising they're the ones setting the communist regime up for rulership, not realising that yes they're on the wall first, but it's not because of skills or truth, it's because the propaganda machine is done with them, and they'll give away the secrets if left alive after the regime change.
Only because in communist countries the state is subservient to the Party.
Also, what kind of logic is it to advocate for extinction because a bunch of people over there have made different choices to you? NY and CA both have addressed the abortion thing with state-level legislation - as this is supposed to work - but apparently, with the red states no longer under the heel of NY legislation, civilisation as we know it is about to end...
