It's true. It's not even a binary yes/no to whether Humans are capable of self-awareness, it's more like a continuous flow between states of true consciousness and pseudo-consciousness. Different people are sentient (sapient) for varying periods of time throughout the day. The Great Apes may even have flashes of it from time to time. But some people we call "Humans" may experience it less than that.
