why does nato still exist
So that the US Military Industrial Complex can sell lots of guns.
Because it is a seat of government power and government power doesn't go away naturally. There are highly paid positions, huge budgets, and lucrative contracts to be had. Why would anyone want to give up all that?
Because without it, Russia would have curb stomped the former waraw pact countries by now, or worse. And based on polls, it may grow again soon with Finland and Sweden after their respective governments and population vote on it.
To protect the members against the attack by the Russians. But since it works so well, Article 5 was only ever invoked to protect America from an attack by the Muslims.
