I'm guessing he either got some random health emergency like a massive stroke out of nowhere (don't forget to get your 2nd booster!), or he was doing drugs and hit the golden vein, because the park is seriously tiny. Even if he broke his legs he could have dragged himself to the nearest trail, they're all over the place. Hell, he could have just yelled for help and someone would have found him in half an hour. He could have probably called 911, too, the park is surrounded by suburbs so it should have full cell coverage.
