Where is the info coming from with us getting so close to Russia invading Ukraine? I have only heard it from mainstream and politicians, both of which should be trusted as little as possible. If it actually happens, I’ll eat crow but I think it’s all a distraction while lockdowns end across the world but government power grabs continue.
The Russians have massed over 3/4 of all of their combat troops at the borders (including in Belarus, on the shortest way to Kiev through the Chernobyl Zone), they're in combat readiness after moving and preparing for several months. The rest of the entire country is basically just skeleton crews (besides strategic forces, Rosgvardia and so on), including the Far East garrisons that that have remained there even in 1941 during the greatest crisis of the Battle of Moscow.
The Peoples Republics announced and began total evacuation (to Russia) and total mobilization on Friday, and just asked for military help from Russia today.
Over the last few days the Russians and the seps both keep on releasing constant announcements and videos (shitty and lazy, they don't even care to be believable) of false flag attacks, or rather "attacks" because no one actually attacks and it's just theater. Most recently (few hours ago, if something more recent didn't happen menawhile) about how they destroyed 2 Ukrainian armored vehicles that crossed the border (and earlier today, how they killed 5 saboteurs, after how Ukrainian shelling hurt civilians in the LPR and destroyed a border post in Russia, among other fake stories from only from just today).
Also today, their Washington embassy sent their "mass graves of citizens murdered by the Nazis" stories to American media, and they say they want to show it in the UN now.
I still hope it's all the world's largest bluff, like the Cuban Missile Crisis, but at this stage I'm running out of copium. I still don't want to acknowledge the apparent reality. I'm not at all mentally prepared for this if it does happen, which is sort of selfish thing to be concerned about. But I just don't want to believe this is happening and in some way I think that "it can't happen here" as long as I will just think so. No jinxing things.
It’s been clear to anyone following and observing what we can through commercial SAR telemetry what he was planning to do however for a full on armored assault Putin needed frozen ground. Which didn’t happen. It was a warm Jan/Feb with no signs of changing as we go into March and the spring thaw.
I think the full invasion and taking of at least eastern Ukraine up to the major river maybe off the table. Unless Putin wants to lose hundreds of armored units to the mud and ATGMs.
What does seem to be on the table is securing Donbas and also taking Odessa and southern Ukraine cutting Ukraine off from ports and creating a land bridge between Crimea and Moldova.
On paper the Ukrainian military was much larger than the little green men back in 2014 and got routed. But this is not the Ukraine of 2014 and it’s not the Russian army of 2014 either. Russian has had the chance to modernize its tactics and gear in Syria over the last half decade.
He’s already got further division between NATO states especially the Baltic states and Germany out of this.
Not going to try and predict any outcomes but the Ukrainians just having been preparing for a full scale war at all, until maybe few days ago. And they had plenty of time, literally years but the last few months in particular. Meanwhile they didn't even check on all these population shelters from the Soviet times, not even such most basic things costing almost nothing.
I still say somehow nothing will happen anyway, but that's based solely on my wishing so.
