The protesters have been winning people over to their side by being peaceful, and they need to stay peaceful. They're not the ones who just spent the day beating up veterans in the streets with the whole world watching.
If they set fire to businesses it would still be a peaceful protest, right? Or only if they're African-Canadian?
Actually, it turns out this lady with the walker is native, and a respected elder in her community. She's been at the protest since day one. Another poor aboriginal victim of racist RCMP violence. The lefties are really in a moral pickle now, lol.
There is no pickle. She simply won't be acknowledged, and if she somehow is she won't count. There is no "we got them now!" moral bind you can hold over a leftists, and you never will.
Right, so they look weak while the police look strong. It doesn't matter how many people you win over if the state has sufficient capacity to keep everyone in line.
No state has ever had sufficient capacity to keep everyone in line, it's always been an illusion based on fear. The public is starting to realize that fact.
The modern state has long since had sufficient capacity to keep everyone in line. Modern western states are starting to realize that fact.
If you think they look strong after this, when the only provocation was 3+ weeks of honking and dance parties, you need to rethink how you evaluate optics.
Optics are what the media say they are. Blue cheka responded by expressing sympathy for the horse.
I don't generally buy the "optics" argument (because, as you said, the media will present their own narrative), but at the moment the convoy appears to be winning the PR battle. Now, should the convoy remain peaceful regardless of the actions of the government? I'd say no (I'd rather not be executed in the street while exercising my right to peacefully protest), but if you're going to violently resist the government you'd want to have as much support behind you as possible, or you're accepting that the end result for you is likely to be a life of torture until you are executed or expire of "natural causes".
More protesters are arriving in Ottawa as we speak. Nothing is stronger than the message that sends.
hooray! with more people on their side, the horses can trample even more poor, passive sods at once!
right?
