Upon entering the store, the clerk told the victim to put on a mask. The victim refused, according to police, and walked up to the counter with items to buy.

The clerk refused to serve the victim, who then walked out of the store without paying for the items, police said,

The clerk then followed the victim outside of the store, recording him with his phone, police said. The two men then began to physically fight when the clerk pulled out a handgun and fired three rounds at the victim, striking him once in the shoulder.

Not really what the title says. In my opinion, if you refuse to take payment for what you publicly offer, then people have every right to take it without payment, but he obviously regarded it as robbery.

Every clerk in the world of told not to confront robbers and shoplifters. The only reason this motherfucker went after someone is because they ignored the mask mandate.

More than that: The customer ignored the clerk's demand for authority.

I'm sorry but that's some real dumbass logic. "The store was closed so it wasn't illegal that we cleaned out all the merchandise."

That is not a refusal to take payment though. I don't know how things work in common law jurisdictions, but in civil law, if I have borrowed money from you, I offer to pay it - and you refuse - the debt is considered cleared.

Now you can imagine a store situation. The store makes an offer. I accept the offer, which imposes on me the obligation to pay the price. The store refuses my payment. My debt is cleared.

Probably in this case, this would not apply, as masks were mandated at the time and the store was within its right to refuse service to this individual.

But I have considered what the best way is to resist 'vaccine passports'. I thought it would be good to walk past the checker, take whatever item you want, and when there is a refusal to sell the item - just hand over the money and walk out of the store. I am not sure it would fly legally, but I do know that it would fly PR-wise.

Assuming the requirement was posted, they were explicitly not offering to sell it to him. Not going to defend the masky lunatic but I don't have any sympathy for shoplifters either.

But if it was shoplifting, he was probably within his rights to chase him. And the article is not specific enough to make a judgment, but if he feared for his life, he may even have been justified to pull the trigger.

Nah dude, if the government is going to force you to bake gay cakes, them gas stations have to serve free-citizens. We have set a precedent in this county that an open business must legally offer their services to anyone who walks in the door. Just because they refuse to play by their own rules doesn't change anything.

Put the money on the counter (including tax) and walk out the door.
