Okay guys, I have no fucking idea what's going on, why it's a big deal, what it means and just generally what makes it relevant here (or anywhere for that matter).
Like... is this some voting show? And....? They got trolled? Like I am probably too backwater Eurotrash with zero cultural understanding for this.
I only know what Like a Version is because I like that time the three women covered Shania Twain.
I'm utterly confused as well. Looking at the chart in the link, I see Justin Bieber and Lil Nas X, complete with a reference to one of the faggiest movies I've ever had the displasure to see, so I think I'll stick to not caring about none of that. I'd rather listen to Gyöngyhajú lány on repeat forever than any of this shit.
Call Me By Your Name. It's literally about an adult faggot seducing a teenager, because that's something that never happens but it's also stunning and brave. I managed to get 30 minutes in before turning it off, because not only is it about faggots, but absolutely nothing interesting happens in those first 30 minutes, it's just a faggot lounging at a pool, a faggot eating ice cream or whatever, and so on.
It's a big thing in Australia, and amongst the "expat" community/anyone who knows an Australian, but most of the music these days is American hip hop/r&b trash, so...
Now you know how I feel with the Amerimutt/Eurotrash shit.
But yes, that was featured in one of these Countdowns, the year after, and yes, this is that station, lol…
That’s their other main thing, I guess. And festivals, in the “before times”…
Triple J, which runs this “Countdown”, which is supposedly via public vote, is absolute trash. They have been for a while…
Because I no longer listen to the station, and because they have moved the date three times in 5 years, I had zero idea it was on, this year…
This used to be a huge part of my life, and my friends still care. They have “Hottest 100” parties, still, where they sit around, drink, and listen to the countdown…
It’s a huge thing, or, it was…
If I want to get invited (which I don’t, anymore, anyway, clearly…), I have to pretend to still care about this chit. 😑
But yeah, fuck this woke trash. It’s been a joke for years, and now it is literally a joke…
A fucking (now) woke children’s group, doing a cover, is now Number 1. Outstanding, Gen Z and the younger “millennials” who still vote for this shit, you absolute idiots… 🤦🏻♂️
"The Triple J Hottest 100 is an annual music listener poll hosted by the publicly-funded, national Australian youth radio station, Triple J. Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite Australian and alternative music of the year in an online poll conducted two weeks prior to the new year.[1][2] From 1989 to 2018, the 100 most popular songs were counted down from 12 pm on Australia Day.[3] Since then the countdown has been held on the fourth weekend of January, due to increasing controversy about Australia Day regarding its marking of the colonisation of Australia and dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.[4] On the day after the Hottest 100, Triple J plays the Hottest 200 ('the songs that didn't quite make it') from 10 am.[5][6]
The poll has grown from 500,000 votes in 2004 to over 3.2 million in 2019, and has subsequently been referred to as "the world's greatest music democracy",[7][8] and inspired a retrospective podcast." - Wiki.
Slightly outdated, because they've fucked with the date again, subsequently, and this year they even scrapped the Hottest 200, which would, otherwise, have been today... :-/
Thing is dying. 3 Mill is roughly 12.5% of the Aus population (so, going by standard definitions of "da yoof", that's like 50% of young people, lol), but I very much doubt those numbers are representative of the current situation, post-woke rebranding...
I'm really glad to see this shit die as it moved away from Australia day.
For those unaware, triple J is a radio station in Aus and years ago did a top 100 vote in for the best songs of the year and it became a tradition to listen to it around the BBQ on Aus day.
Except Triple J is incredibly woke so they hate Australia day. They moved it to another day this year, just on a random day a few days beforehand which is great because it was a guaranteed to fail move.
I went to a "hottest 100 drinks" just for the radio countdown with a group of people that only had 2 people that cared about it.
Turns out no-one really wants to listen to 90 songs that they don't care about over the course of a day as a whole day activity.
Apparently a kids song got picked as number one that they did in the studio as a cover or something.
Good riddance and I'm glad it was an embarrassing failure.
"the angel of 8th ave." by Gang of Youths is by far the best song on this list, IMHO, unless you like Olivia Rodrigo's... Schtick (I actually don't mind her music, for what it is). I do not think shitty covers should count, let alone shit featuring Idris Elba attempting to rap, but anyway...
But yeah, if you like uplifting, wholesome, maybe a little "preachy" god rock, in the sense of the bands Live or Mister Mister, but definitely not "Christian Rock", then Gang of Youths are worth checkin' out. even if you're a depressed atheist, lol.
Lead singer (might be a bit of a dick, but) has seen some shit to say the least. Which is often where the best music comes from, as I'm sure you all know (Pink Floyd, anyone??).
Most of the rest of it is literally degenerate TikTok shit, or woke trash that literally only the wokest, most brainwashed Australian zoomers could possibly enjoy (two of the songs in the countdown, "Little Things" and "Down Under" literally only exist to destroy Australian icons, and shit on the original songs, never mind the divisiveness they spread)...

Here we have been doing that since Kóbor died. Every news show, radio show or anything else was talking about it, so they kept playing that song.
What’s the movie, out of interest?? 🤔

Uno (very "mature" article, this one): https://archive.is/eTAAs
Dos (the ABC, which is the Australian public broadcaster, owns, and "officially" at least, runs, Triple J): https://archive.is/IHy2A
And about the countdown itself: https://archive.is/y0SRZ

Haim, is the band you speak of, btw…
In case you’re looking for it again. 🤷🏻♂️

I feel like voting for the wiggles was some kind of meme. Like Boaty McBoatface.
