Romanticism, it’s amazing how simple it is to mythologize something and make something else seem innocuous by comparison. For example, how we look at American slavery versus Ottoman slavery. All it takes is enough bleating sheep and one becomes the worst thing ever even if the other was platitudes more heinous.
The last book I read by Sowell had a chapter about the slave trade in different parts of the world. Ottomans were very cruel. He was saying how it would be beneficial to teach slavery from a global perspective. I agree because I think it’s sad and disturbing how many American youth think that slavery was invented in the U.S. and with all these “activists” in the west you notice none of them do anything to help actual slaves or sex trafficking victims today.
